Elements in the painting:• Rooster on a haystack: A striking symbol of rural life, often also a symbol of vigilance and the morning.• Clothes drying rack: Indicates daily life; the colorful clothing (especially red and turquoise) may refer to the typical clothing of the Miao minority.• Basket, chopping blocks, and hut: Reinforce the sense of a rural household, likely a farm or village setting in a mountainous area.• Thatched-roof hut: Traditional building material, characteristic of mountain villages in southwest China.• Expressive brushstrokes and subtle coloring: Reminiscent of 20th-century Chinese painting, possibly in the style of the Lingnan School (岭南画派) or an individual contemporary artist with rural themes.I inherited this painting from my uncle who bought it in 1990 from the artist Huang Gesheng..At the top right of the painting you see the first two lines from the Tang Poem (Shan Xing, "mountain walk") by Du MU (803-852).Literally:"far up, the syone path winds along the cold mountain, where teh clouds rise, ther lives a house".About Huang Gesheng:Huang Gesheng was born in 1950 in Wuxuan County, Guangxi Autonomous Region.
