Very nice and honest Antwerp Citadel defenders medal from 1832, with ribbon. The Antwerp Medal 1832 was instituted by King William I of the Netherlands by Royal Decree of 31 May 1833. According to the decree, it was to be awarded "as a reward to those who, during the siege of the Citadel of Antwerp in the period from 28 November through 24 December 1832, served in the citadel and its dependent forts (Vlaamsche Hoofd, Burcht, Zwijndrecht, and Austruweel), as well as on the flotilla on the River Scheldt before Antwerp."See also our other interesting WW2 items, including Dutch May 1940, that we have on offer on catawiki!The Dutch government failed in 1815 to institute medals for the soldiers who drove Napoleon from the battlefield at Waterloo and Quatre Bras. Unlike the governments of the German states and the United Kingdom, which established campaign medals for their troops, the Netherlands did not follow suit. In the aftermath of the Belgian Revolution, however, decorations such as the Antwerp Medal 1832, the Metal Cross 1830–1831, and the Volunteers' Metal Cross 1830–1831 were instituted.
