A Yixing zisha teapot.China, 20th century.The teapot of compact rounded form, potted in reddish-brown zisha clay, the gently swelling body rising to a short neck and fitted with a slightly domed cover surmounted by an arched loop finial. Set to one side with a simple curved loop handle and to the other with a short tapering spout.The surface is undecorated, emphasising the warm reddish-brown colour and subtly granular texture of the clay. The recessed base impressed with a four-character seal mark, with further small impressed potter's seals to the handle and to the interior of the cover.The restrained form and absence of applied or incised decoration place the emphasis on the proportions of the vessel and the character of the zisha clay, in keeping with the traditional aesthetic of Yixing tea wares.Marks:A four-character impressed seal mark to the base; additional impressed seals to the handle and interior of the cover.Height 7 cm, width with handle and spout 11 cm, diameter body 7 cm.Condition:Perfect condition.Worldwide registered and insured shipping.
