The front shows an elaborate royal ceremonial barge, temple architecture and mythological figures, surrounded by finely engraved ornamental borders. The reverse is decorated with two Thai figures and a central presentation inscription:“To Mr. Hans BernittWith compliments ofMessrs. Tan Nguan Thye Co.Bangkok, Thailand”The case is marked:“STERLING – THAI NAKON”Because of its unusually large dimensions, this was most likely made as a presentation, document, banknote or personal papers case, rather than as a standard cigarette case. The contrast between the bright engraved sterling silver and the deep black niello creates a highly decorative and characteristic Thai design.Details* Maker: Thai Nakon* Country of origin: Thailand* Place: Bangkok* Period: approximately 1940–1960* Material: sterling silver with niello decoration* Weight: 193 grams* Length: 17 cm* Width: 8.5 cm* Thickness: approximately 1 cm* Personal presentation inscription on the reverse* Hinged construction with claspConditionIn good vintage condition, with visible signs of age and use.
