A beautifully-produced report/commemoration of the fierce fighting that broke out in Barcellona two days after the Fascist uprising against the Second Spanish Republic, which initiated the Spanish Civil War. In this engagement the Fascist military was defeated by various people's militias of poorly-armed peasants and workers. The book consists of stunning artwork by "SIM" [Jose Luis Vila Rey]. Produced by the "Confederacion Nacional del Trabadjo" [National Confederation of Labor] and the "Federscion Anarchista Iberica" [Spanish Anarchist Federation]. The Spanish Civil War produced much distinctive art work, but this stands alone as an eye-witness visual account of a major event of the Twentieth Century. Little is known about the artist, who signed his work as "SIM", but through the decades his illustrations have been used in other publications.
