Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in 1949, he initially studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara before dedicating himself to fine arts. His artistic style is characterized by a blend of fantasy, Mexican folklore, and nature. He often creates whimsical and surreal sculptures featuring animals, celestial beings, and humanoid figures. Bustamante's work is celebrated for its originality and use of diverse materials. While he began with paintings and papier-mâché figures, he later expanded his craft to include wood, bronze, ceramics, and even jewelry. His pieces are often hand-made and part of limited editions, making each one unique. Some of his notable works include the bronze sculpture "In Search of Reason," a large-scale piece in Puerto Vallarta that visitors can climb, and "Man on Crescent Moon." His art has been exhibited internationally and is highly sought after by collectors worldwide. He established a workshop in Tlaquepaque, Mexico, in 1975, which continues to be operational today.
