Widely celebrated for his absolute mastery of the classic Ligne Claire (clean line) tradition, van Dongen channels a highly detailed, Tintin-esque aesthetic to deliver a joyous, theatrical slice of life right in the heart of Amsterdam.​The spectacular, widescreen city composition captures a festive, carnivalesque gathering taking place directly outside the historic red-brick theater building. On the left, a traditional blue-and-red Amsterdam city tram (Line 7, bound for "HAARLEMMERPLEIN") overflows with cheerful passengers as a crowd of enthusiastic children runs alongside it.
