A elegantly shaped Yixing teapot called a Shuiping 水平 (meaning water level). One of the most beloved Yixing shapes. This small teapot is finely made and stamped at the bottom with a 荊溪南孟臣制 Jingxi Mengchen mark. The lid is stamped with a makers mark.About Hui Mengchen and His MarksHui Mengchen, a renowned potter from Yixing, is best known for his elegant, pear-shaped teapots. Active from the late Ming to the early Qing dynasty (Tianqi/Chongzhen through the late 17th century), his work profoundly influenced generations of potters, both in China and abroad.His original teapots, often unadorned but finely inscribed in kaishu script on the base, are believed by K.S. Lo to be Hui’s own creations. Later pieces, typically bearing a rectangular six-character seal in zhuanshu script, were likely made by his descendants (see K.S.
