Ocean and Fishing Temple statue, represents Tiki God Kanaloa . Carved out of a solid piece of wood (suar wood aka monkey pod which only grows in Hawaii, Brasil and Indonesia) with great details. Kanaloa is known as the Tiki of the ocean and fishing. Kanaloa is one of the 4 major Tiki Gods in Hawaii. This is a classical Kona-Style image. Kona Style faces dominated by snarling mouths and extended nostrils with the parallel carved lines representing the beards.Although this piece shows signs of use (some surface drying cracks and scratches) it features fantastically rich incised decoration. Its patina, combined with its elegant design, make it an ethnographic object of great interest.
