A very beautiful chest from Nuristan, northern Afghanistan. This piece was bought in Afghanistan in the 1970's and was part of an extensive private collection.The chest is complete and sturdy when the pins are inserted. (the pins are not original) It can be easily taken apart and put back together. It measures only 49cm high, 64 cm in length and 24cm deep. +/- 5 kg.It has very nice detailed work on the front panel and the front of the side panels. There is a small hole in the lid and in the backside: see pictures.Considering the patina and wear from use at time of purchase, this chest is estimated to be from +/-1850 or before.The chest will be carefully packed and shipped with insurance.
