We have the honor to sell this painting for a unique opportunity. Most of the works of Pieneman are housed in The Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam. For example his most famous work of the ‘slag bij Waterloo’. Rarely is one of his works seen at auctions. Few words are needed to describe this painting. Take a look at the breathtakingly painted hands with which Pieneman perhaps reaches a peak of anatomical perfection.This work has also been mentioned with a picture in the oeuvre catalogue of Pieneman at Wikipedia. The painting is in very good condition with a couple of retouches and is recently cleaned. A photo of the signature with UV-light is also added. As seen in the picture a part of the old varnish was left on top of the signature to preserve it for the future. Jan Willem Pieneman must be considered the founder of 19th-century painting.
