Other popular works translated by Ten Kate are Dante's Inferno (de hel) and Milton's Paradise Lost (het verloren paradijs). The plates by Gustave Doré (1832-1883) give a beautiful example of his background in romantic art. The overwhelming landscapes he depicted are alternated by witty animal figures in dark forests.
