An impressive and unusually large Japanese Imari porcelain charger, attributed to the Meiji period (1868–1912). Large hand-painted Japanese Imari porcelain charger with a richly decorated floral composition. The centre depicts two birds perched amongst blooming peonies and other flowers emerging from an ornamental jardinière, surrounded by an elaborate border with chrysanthemums, peonies, scrolling motifs and gilt detailing in the traditional Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red, soft green and black.The reverse bears a red underglaze Imari (伊萬里) mark.With a diameter of approximately 46 cm, this is an impressive decorative charger suitable for wall display or as a statement piece in an interior.ConditionThe charger is in good antique condition considering its age. Light age-related wear to the enamels and gilding.Minor firing imperfections typical of handmade Japanese porcelain from the period. No visible restorations.The stand is not included.Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
