Eames PKW-1 Chair (1952). Black naugahyde, full inside cover/upholstery. Pivoting/swivel seat.Part of the Wire Mesh Chair Series, the DKW stood for Dining (D) height, K-Wire (K) on Wooden (W) base. Released in 1952 alongside the DKR, DKX, LKR and RKR models, it was available with either Birch or Walnut dowel legs and in fixed (DKW) or pivoting (PKW) versions. Upholstery came as a full cover (1) or the two-piece “Bikini” set (2), often using Alexander Girard textiles.The striking combination of a black steel frame, upholstered shell, and wooden dowel base made the chair visually iconic. This is an original top on a later version of the swivel dowel base.
