Radio pioneer Nikolaus Eltz died a few years later in 1984.RADIONE company logoThe company is particularly well known for its portable R-2 radios that were produced for the civil market. During World War II (WWII), Radione also produced the R-3 shortwave receiver and the RS-20M transmitter for the military market. These devices were used – for example – by the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) and by the German Intelligence Service, the Abwehr. During the war, Radio Nikolaus Eltz (i.e. RADIONE) used the manufacturer code 'bo' on its military equipment.
