A unique Throwing club, ula tavatava from Fiji.Wood, with white trade beads, early 19th century.This is a very heavy and powerfull club, unique with a lot remaining trade beads as can been seen on the pictures, only a few of such clubs are known in the world.Provenance: Robert Bleakley collection, Byron Bay, N.S.W.He was the former director of Sotheby's Australia started collecting what he calls "transformative objects" in the 1970s, while directing the tribal art department at Sotheby's in London.Purchased via Alex Phillips a renowed tribal art dealer from Australia.I have attached some pictures of R.Bleakley's home that show the club as part of a great renowed collectionthat was sold.
