A rare silver figure of the Virgin Mary, circa 1700 - probably Spanish (Colonial?) The crowned Madonna is shown kneeling in prayer, her hands joined, draped in a richly decorated mantle adorned with finely engraved floral and foliate motifs. The figure rests on a striking octagonal base featuring three cherub heads in high relief and pierced hanging hooks. This piece represents museum quality craftsmanship, and examples of this sculptural type are seldom encountered on the market. A highly important and collectible devotional silver, likely intended for a private chapel or noble household.
