Danish mid - Century modern. Design Kai Kristiansen (b. 1929) for Feldballes Møbelfabrik, October 1958.This freestanding, large desk by Kai Kristiansen was often made of high-quality Brazilian hardwood. This luxurious look is nicely complemented by the elegant forms and high quality of Danish design from the 1950s and 1960s. The desk has two drawer blocks with three drawers each and cabinets on the back of each block. These are lockable with a key (2 keys provided). There is also an extendable writing or typing tray. All in all, an elegant touch of Scandinavian design.Designer Kai Kristiansen was born in 1929. He trained as a furniture maker before enrolling at the prestigious Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1948, where he was taught by the influential designer Kaare Klint.At just 26, Kristiansen opened his own studio and began designing furniture in what would soon become known as the Danish modern style. His designs were produced by well-known Danish manufacturers, such as Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Fornem Møbelkunst, Fritz Hansen, Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik and Magnus Olesen.
