Daniek Dijkstrab/. 1991 Utrecht, the Netherlands.Daniek Dijkstra (1991) is a young artist from Utrecht, the Netherlands who, with her illusory and imaginative images based on folk-tales and Baroque- and Renaissance paintings, creates her own imagery.She studied Photography at the University of the Arts Utrecht and Fashion & Design at Vogue Academy in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.Her portraits consist of mixed techniques resulting in a digital image that has been altered layer by layer. Her work might appear fairytale-like, but there’s always a tangible sense of friction. This results in images that look familiar but at the same time are estranging.Daniek also designs dessins. With divergent themes she creates dessins by hand as well as digitally that can be used for what they’re usually made for (wallpaper, carpets, clothing etc.) but can also be seen as a piece of art to be hung upon the wall. Her work arises from an enumeration of fantasy, thoughts and ideas that merge from a variety of sources of inspiration.
