A Rare Spanish Gilt-Copper Crucifix, 17th CenturyHeight 52.5 cm (including later base) — Width 25 cmPrivate Belgian CollectionA finely chased and parcel-gilt copper crucifix, the cross decorated with embossed foliate motifs and retaining its original sculpted Corpus Christi. The figure of Christ is rendered with elongated proportions and a subtly modelled anatomy, characteristic of Spanish devotional metalwork of the 17th century. Set on a domed knop with petal designs, once likely forming part of a processional or altar cross.Complete examples of this type are scarce, particularly retaining the original corpus.
