Carlos Houba – Fauteuil – Wenge, Tulpenboomhout, Wortelnotenhout, Esdoorn, Afrormosia – Wooden dating chair

This is a unique piece of work, 1/1Made in Rotterdam by a master carpenter.The chair was inspired by japan-based designer Akio Hayakawa. He developed the ‘portrait in chair’ during Designtide Tokyo 2012. The manipulation of the horizontal produces a visual effect while freeing up the vertical movement of the body. Made of MFD and maple. The last photo shows an example.This chair was has been made of high quality wood: maple for the frame, wengé for the back and walnut, tulip and afrormosia for the seats. The backrest is not straight, but lightly curved to improve comfort. The back is made of laminated maple wood.The purpose of the carpenter / designer was to make this a dating chair and to observe the people in the chair. The chair was deliberately bend inwards to place the persons involved more toward each other by the form of the chair. And there is only one armrest ! What will happen ? What will be their body language ?
