A late Edo period lacquered travel Butsudan (仏壇) with a wooden carved bodhisattva Kannon Bosatsu standing on a lotus throne. The depicted Kamakura-style Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy (Avalokiteshvara), is an extremely popular deity in Japan and is depicted with the right hand in a Vayu mudra (healing). The doors of the shrine are very nicely decorated with lotus flowers. The Kannon is beautifully highlighted in gilt and polychome paints. Dimensions: Kannon: H7,5 x W2 cmButsudan: H14 x W6 x D4,5 cmCondition: The Kannon is in good condition, the inside of the Butsudan has some dirt and incense staining, the metal halo has some damage.
