A late Edo period lacquered travel Butsudan (仏壇) with a wooden carved bodhisattva Kannon Bosatsu sitting on a lotus throne. The depicted Kamakura-style Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy (Avalokiteshvara), is an extremely popular deity in Japan and is depicted with the right hand in a Abhaya mudra (Protection). The Kannon is beautifully highlighted in gilt and adorned with a crown and jewels.Dimensions: Kannon: H6 x W4,5 cmButsudan: H17 x W9 x D5,7cmCondition: The Kannon is in good condition, the inside of the Butsudan has some dirt and incense staining. The Butsudan's exterior lacquer has some wear and minor damage. Please note the doors are stuck when closed and to open them is very hard. The lot is sold "as is".
