Gilt Figure of Kannon (Guanyin) with Dedication InscriptionJapan, Taishō period, dated 11 October 1918 (Taishō 7)A finely carved and gilded figure of Kannon (観音, Avalokiteśvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, standing gracefully upon a lotus pedestal. The deity holds a flask or sacred vessel in her left hand, symbolising mercy and the dispensing of spiritual nourishment, while the right hand is extended downward in a gesture of blessing and reassurance (varada mudra), signifying compassion bestowed upon the earthly realm.The figure is raised on a square base with a red lacquer inscription, recording a dedicatory text dated to 11 October 1918 (Taishō 7). The inscription reads:大正七年法名釋實好信十月十一日宮腰町出町榮次郎“Buddhist name: Shaku Jikkōshin (釈実好信).Dedicated by Demachi Eijirō (出町栄次郎) of Miyakoshi-chō (宮腰町).”Such dedicatory inscriptions indicate the object’s function as a memorial or devotional offering, likely commissioned for merit-making purposes within a Buddhist context during the Taishō period.Dimensions:H38 (Kannon 19cm) X W13 X D9,5 cmCondition:In good condition.
