A Polychrome Carved Wood Figure of the Christ ChildSpain, 17th CenturyA wonderfully expressive polychrome wooden sculpture of the Christ Child, standing in a blessing pose on its original integral parcel-gilt and polychrome base. The figure displays beautiful proportions, finely carved hair and facial features, and a charming youthful expression.The sculpture retains traces of earlier polychromy, with later overpainting visible to the flesh tones and base—consistent with devotional use and age of more than 300 years. Typical age-related wear, small losses and restorations to the carved wood and polychrome layers.
