Von der Vogelwaide is a distinctive wine project led by Daniel Vogelwaid and Michael Donabaum, two passionate winemakers from the Wachau region of Austria. In 2019, the duo chose to forge their own path, explicitly moving away from the traditional "Weingut" (winery) designation. They pursue innovative methods and place a strong emphasis on sustainability and biodynamic production. Their international experience in renowned wine regions and their diverse backgrounds—including interior design—give them a unique perspective on both viticulture and creativity. Daniel studied viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, Bordeaux, and Vienna. He worked at prestigious estates such as Domaine de l’Horizon, Château Palmer, and Comtes Lafon in France, as well as Fryer’s Cove in South Africa. Michael, on the other hand, grew up in the family business and honed his skills at renowned wineries like Franz Hirtzberger and Tokara in South Africa. He is also passionate about interior design, which brings an additional creative dimension to his work as a winemaker. “We complement each other well,” confirms Michael. “We both enjoy being in the vineyard.
