Most likely needing little introduction, these singular efforts are made by Emmanuel Reynaud from his tiny plot of pure sandy soils located near the center of the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. Surrounded on all sides by forest (which is unique) and a cool terroir, harvest here goes very late and these wines never lack for power or richness.Rayas has a prominent position in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, known for an unusually transparent and elegant interpretation of the appellation. The wine is created primarily from Grenache from north-facing sandy plots, and no new barrels are used during aging. The 2011 vintage is cooler than the previous year, with ripe tannins and a lively acidity profile balancing the classic, rounded fruit. The style is almost Burgundian, with depth and finesse rather than power. The wine has therefore been positively received for its balance and accessibility already early on, but it also has good aging potential. Reviewers such as Wine Advocate and Vinous noted elegant structure and clarity in this vintage, where Rayas's particular minerality and freshness stand out clearly. No shipping outside EU,Stored in underground cellar.
