Ship’s model of the British-flag general cargo vessel Ramon de Larrinaga, the first upbound cargo vessel to sail through the St. Lawrence Seaway (border area USA/Canada), in April 1959, on her way to Duluth, after an icebreaker had opened the waterway to vessel traffic. The Ramon de Larrinaga was built in 1954 by Wm. Pickersgill, Sunderland, UK, with Hull no. 334. She measured 9.980 DWT and 5.818 GRT and was owned by Larrinaga Steamship Co., Ltd, Liverpool, a British company owned by a Spanish family. The vessel, an SD14, was sold in 1969, before the company itself was sold to the Piraeus-based George Vergottis shipping family in Pireaus in 1974.The model was handmade in 1954 for the first owners of the vessel. Is is encased in a wood-and-glass vitrine. Because of the model's weight (ca. 30 kg) the cost of shipping will depend on the buyer's location.
