A magnificent pair of handcarved grey stone sculptures representing Dvarapala Gupolo, the traditional temple guardians of ancient Java. Each figure is carved in a semi-kneeling posture, holding a mace and bearing the powerful, protective expression typical of temple sentinels. Dimensions each: 140 x 70 x 50 cm. Total weight: ca. 500 kg. Condition: very good, see images. These figures reflect the rich cultural heritage of Central Java, where such guardians were placed at the entrances of sacred sites to ward off evil and protect the spiritual sanctity within. A very decorative pair, strong in presence and rich in meaning! Please note: transport is possible, price depends on location/distance. #ttjuly
