Here is a beautiful Cossack kindjal, made by Caucasian weapons-makers. The kindjal is a traditional Russian weapon, it could be described as a large knife or dagger. These superb pieces were mostly made by local Caucasian craftsmen (Omarov, Guzunov…) or by official factories like the Zlatooust or Tula factory. Kindjals were widely used in the Russian Empire until its end in 1917. There were also a few copies made during the Soviet era, but they were only decorative or ceremonial weapons used during military parades.
Total length: 48 cm
Length without sheath: 43.75 cm
This beautiful dagger consists of a horn hilt, inlaid with white metal or white horn. The two buttons and fittings of the sheath are made of white metal, covered with a thin layer of silver (the sheath fittings). The blade is in good condition with a single offset fulle,r as on the Circassian kindjals. The item was purchased more than 10 years ago from an individual seller. The Kindjal is 100% original and dates from the late 19th-early 20th century. More information can be found in the books of A.N. Kulinski or in the ‘Gazette des armes’ issue No. 184, from December 1988.
