Iconic Coat hanger, designed by Roald Steen Hansen, 1974
A Wall Sculpture
Born in 1942, Hansen trained at the School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen and taught at the Danish Design School. The hanger is in beech. There is a metal bar that is fixed to the wall and then the tuned knop, which has a channel cut in the back, slots over the bar and is held in place with a grub screw. The loop of the hanger drops over the knop and a thin ring of rubber helps to stop it sliding forward. Simple, beautifully made and a bit of sculpture when not being used for jackets and coats.
Never used. In original box.
