A wonderful triptych by Utagawa Kunisada (1786 – 1865) depicting a scene from the kabuki play ‘Azuma Kudari Gojûsan Tsugi’ / ‘Fifty-three post stations along eastern Japan’ (吾孺下五十三駅). The triptych was published in 1854.
Actor and role:
Bandō Shūka I – Hitomaru no Oroku (left panel)
Ichikawa Kodanji – Tennichibo (middle panel)
Arashi Rikan V – Jirai Taro (right panel)
Note the wonderful detailed kimono with skeletons on Bandō Shūka I, playing the thief Hitomaru no Oroku, and the fox-themed kimono on Arashi Rikan V, who plays Jirai Taro. Ichikawa Kodanji — as Tennichibo — looks on as the action unfolds.
This triptych is in the Waseda collection:

Condition: Good. Colours are slightly faded but largely intact. Nice clean edges. A few small spots and marks. Minor remnants of old backings, but in general the prints are unbacked with nice bleed. Please inspect the pictures.
Your shipment: Between sturdy cardboard. Track and trace and additional coverage (if bidding price permits).
