Antique Russian icon ‘Holy Martyr Nikita’ with two saints along the edges. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century.
The icon was probably made in central Russia at the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century.
Pretty rare and sought-after motif. Relatively detailed painting. Perfect coordination of colour contrasts. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the form of smaller paint chips (especially on the edge), minimal cracks, scratches and dirt (see photos). Partial restorations are present (
in the face, among others). All saints are labelled. The text is easy to read. The painting has craquelure (see photos). Heavy and solid wooden panel. Two cross-sponkis are installed on the back.
A piece for experts and collectors.
