Verenigde Staten van Amerika – Unique US Army Heartshield bulletproof bible – named – served onboard U.S.S. ESCAMBIA (AO-80) – Militaire uitrusting – 1944

Exceedingly difficult to find - an original Heart Shield Bible, from 1943 when these shields were sold. This unique example is named to Elbert S Dixon Jr, born in 1927 and enlisted in 1944/1945. He would be assigned to the famous US tanker USS Escambia, where he served on onwards from marc h1945 supporting invasions in the pacific such as the Okinawa landings. He is specifially mentioned in the ships roster. Some preliminary research is attached digitally; he sadly passed away already in 1948, it looks like an accident but I cannot find the exact cause. His bible has his name and service number. his bible is in good and nice condition except for some wear; see photo's as they are part of the description. the cover has a beautiful patina. The metal plates were to prevent a bullet from reaching the soldier’s heart (which they did on several occasions. surface of the bible has a great patina and has the text: ''May the lord be with you'.A very nice 100% original item for your US WW2 collection with an impressive link to the US Navy!
