Beautiful cast iron fireback titled “Return from the Hunt”, depicting two hunters carrying their game, surrounded by elegant scrollwork and decorative framing.This fireback was traditionally cast in an open sand mould and covered with ash to cool slowly — a method typical of historical iron foundries. The reverse side shows the characteristic porous surface resulting from this technique.The piece features fine relief details and a deep, rich patina that highlights its craftsmanship and age.Stylistically, it belongs to the Neo-classical / Revival / Napoleon III tradition, inspired by 18th- and 19th-century hunting scenes.
